Not only does Christmas mean joy to the world, but also a continuation of the sorrow, lament and trauma that are part of our lives in this world. Even the parts of our lives that are not "merry and bright" are part of the Christmas story, and our tears, longings and laments are holy, too. If you can't have a Merry Christmas this year, have a Holy Christmas. Christ was born for this!
